Business expenses

The genuine costs of running your business that reduce the profit you get taxed on.

Real costs incurred to earn your revenue — software, equipment, travel, professional insurance, training and the like — are deducted before profit is calculated. Claiming them properly lowers your taxable profit; inventing or inflating them is not a real saving, since the cash still leaves your business.

In the worked example

On the worked example for a freelancer in Netherlands with €115,500 of revenue, this line comes to €12,000.
