How this is calculated
Versement libératoire is a flat percentage of turnover, paid together with your cotisations, that discharges your income tax. The barème route instead applies the progressive income-tax scale to turnover after the fixed allowance for your activity. Eligibility depends on your household reference income from two years earlier; this calculator uses current turnover as a proxy for that lagging figure, so treat the eligibility line as indicative. It also models a single-person household with no other income — a spouse’s income or other earnings can flip the answer, since the barème taxes household income as a whole.

Questions people ask
- How do I elect the versement libératoire?
- You opt in with URSSAF — when you register, or by 30 September for it to apply from the following calendar year. The option runs per calendar year and can be withdrawn on the same schedule.
- Why can the barème be cheaper even at a decent turnover?
- Because the barème has a tax-free band and household allowances. If your taxable household income lands low in the scale, you may owe little or no income tax, while the versement libératoire is charged on every euro of turnover.
- Does the option change my cotisations?
- No. Cotisations are unaffected — the versement libératoire only replaces how your income tax is settled, and it is collected alongside them.
